We have had many problems receiving packages for our missionaries. Letters and flat envelopes usually go through the process without customs inspection; however, many packages are opened, inspected and charged duties if the goods are available in Romania. The duties on some packages exceed the cost of the goods themselves.
Recently, it has become even more difficult as they are requiring a power of attorney from the recipient before the customs office will release the package to the mission office.
Therefore, we would like to have all future packages sent to the Romania & Moldova mission, addressed only to the mission address listed below with no missionary name on the outside.
Romania Moldova Mission Bulevardul Primaverii, nr. 19-21 Etaj 1, #13 Sector 1 Bucharest, 011972 Romania
The package should be sent to permit us to open the outer label, top or layer and still have an intact package with the missionary’s name inside or alternatively the missionary’s name in the return address field with the senders’ home address.
This procedure will permit us to pick-up all packages from customs with a notarized power of attorney in the name of the mission and then get the package to the missionary without all of the problems and additional costs and time.
It is standard practice for a package sent to a foreign country to state the contents and value. Please still do this. We have our best success with USPS standard priority packages. If you have any concern about what you are shipping, wire money via Western Union and have your missionary purchase the items in country. With the exception of electronics, many goods are less expensive and wearable items purchased here are more ‘in local fashion’.
